VIPD Hosts Association Commissioners of Police Annual Meeting

Novelle E. Francis, Jr.Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis, Jr. announced Tuesday that the Virgin Islands Police Department will host the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police 25th Annual General Meeting and Conference. The conference will be held on May 24 – 27 at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort and Spa on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Violent Crime in the Caribbean – Defining & Delivering a Regional Response.

Police Commissioners from Barbados, Bermuda, Montserrat, Cayman Islands, Guyana, Curacao, St. Lucia, Bahamas, Belize, BVI, Turks and Caicos, Dominica, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Kitts are confirmed to attend the conference. The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Jamaician Police Force will also attend.

The conference features Plenary Sessions that are open to the public. These sessions will delve into such topics as crime and social development; training deficits in Caribbean policing; combating police corruption and the impact of crime on tourism.

Plenary Session presenters include: Deputy Commissioner of the Jamician Police Force Jevene Bent; Marilyn J. Jones, Associate Professor, Division of Criminal Justice at California State University; Robert Paulson, former FEMA director; Mark Ridley, Special Assistant to the President of NOBLE and Ausbert Regis, Commissioner, Royal St. Lucia Police Force.

Local and regional media attending the conference will have opportunities to interview the commissioners and other VIPs by appoint throughout the conference depending on availability.

Individuals wishing to participate in the Plenary Sessions should register with the VIPD Administrative Office located at the upper level of the hotel on the first day of the conference.
