Citizen Tip Leads to Weapon Confiscation
December 16, 2010
Thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen another unlicensed firearm was taken off the streets of St. Thomas.
Members of the St. Thomas Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) arrested 28-year-old Achille A. Heywood and charged him with Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm after a concerned citizen alerted police that Heywood was wearing a gun as he worked in the Berg’s Home area.
When CIU members located and checked Heywood they discovered that he was wearing a brown gun holster. A .40 caliber hand gun with an obliterated serial number was in the holster. Additionally, two loaded magazines - one containing 13 rounds and a second magazine containing nine rounds was also found on the suspect.
A check with the VIPD Firearm’s Bureau indicated the suspect is not licensed to possess a firearm in the Virgin Islands. Bail for Heywood was set at $25,000.00. Unable to post bail, Heywood was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
