Estate Anna’s Retreat Man Arrested for Shooting Minor

December 22, 2010

Police on St. Thomas arrested Jamoi Corraspe, 18, of Estate Anna’s Retreat around 6:35 a.m. Tuesday, December 21 charging him with First Degree Assault, Aggravated Child Abuse, Reckless Endangerment and Using a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime. Corraspe’s arrest was based on a warrant issued by Magistrate Kathleen McKay of the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands for an incident that happened in November.

According to the police report, a white jeep with three male passengers pulled alongside a truck with five male occupants, including a 17-year-old minor, which was stopped at a red light at Mandela Circle. Corraspe exited the jeep, approached the minor seated in the back of truck and began to argue with him.  Corraspe then hit the minor on his head with a gun and fired six shots at him before leaving in the jeep.

The victim was shot in his left forearm and right thigh. He was transported by private vehicle to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police continue to investigate this matter.

Bail for Corraspe was set at $50,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
