Police Chase and Apprehend Burglar

Police on St. Thomas arrested 23-year-old Wagnel Florentino around 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28 and charged him with First Degree Burglary, Grand Larceny and Destruction of Property.


According to the police report, a 71-year-old woman was inside her Estate Thomas apartment and observed a man attempting to break into her residence. The suspect cut her screen door with a knife, approached the woman and snatched a gold chain from her neck before running out the house.


Officers traveling to the scene observed the suspect, later identified as Florentino, running into the Paul M. Pearson Gardens housing community. Officers chased the suspect on foot, apprehended and arrested him.


Bail for Florentino was set at $111,000. Unable to post bail he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
