Special Operations Bureau Traffic Stop Initiative Yield 2 Arrest 2 Handguns Recovered

On July 23, 2019, at approximately 10:25 pm, officers from the SOB (Special Operations Bureau), while on patrol traveling on the Melvin H. Evans Highway in the vicinity of the Captain Morgan Rum Distillery, observed a black 2-door Honda without license plate tags.

Officers immediately conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, 22-year-old Jareem Tutein, came out of the vehicle and provided an expired driver’s license.

During the process, officers observed a black handgun behind the driver’s seat on the floor. Tutein was immediately detained.

The passenger, 29-year-old Roy Hendrikson, exited the vehicle and upon questioning, Hendrikson became aggressive and uncooperative with the officers. A physical altercation ensued, the officers and Hendrikson fell to the ground, but the officers were able to detain Hendrikson.

While in the ground, the officers observed a handgun underneath the vehicle to the rear of the passengers' side.

Jareem Tutein was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm. Tutein's bail was set at $10,000 by a Superior Court Magistrate. Unable to post it, he was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center.

Roy Hendrikson was charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Obstructing and Delaying an Officer while discharging his duties. Bail was set by a Superior Court Magistrate at $100,000. Unable to post it, Hendrikson was remanded to Golden Grove Detention Center.
