VIPD Officers Respond And Investigate Kidnapping On St. John

August 09, 2019

ST. JOHNS – On Saturday, August 10, 2019 at approximately 1:15 a.m., Virgin Islands Police Department officers responded to a call from victim Bernard Wesselhoft, owner of Slim Man Parking Lot on St. John, at his #20 Enighed residence.

Upon arrival, Wesselhoft told officers that he parked his car across the street from his residence when he said an individual dressed in all black approached him from behind and stuck what he believed to be a gun at his head. Wesselhoft expressed to officers that the suspect instructed him not to look back.

The perpetrator forced Wesselhoft by gunpoint to the front door of his residence and ordered him to open the door. During this exchange, Wesselhoft was able to get separation from the suspect by pushing the individual and was able to enter the residence and lock the door. Soon after Wesselhoft told officers that two gunshots were fired. Officers were able to find a spent casing along with one round of ammunition.

Officers secured the scene and notified the VIPD’s Forensic Unit for further processing of the scene. While no one was injured officers continued to canvass the area in search of the suspect and any potential weapons. This matter is currently under active investigation.
