VIPD Officers Respond To Armed Robbery Of St. Thomas Gas Station

ST. THOMAS – On Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at approximately 2:58 a.m., Virgin Islands Police Department officers of the Richard Callwood Command and the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery that took place at the Racetrack Gas Station and Convenience Store on St. Thomas.

Upon arrival on the scene, VIPD Detectives contacted the station’s private security personnel. The security guard expressed that there was a total of three armed individuals. He described one of the masked individuals as dressed in all black with a red bandana covering his face. That suspect approached him with a rifle weapon and instructed the armed guard to put his hands up and proceeded to disarm him.

The security guard went on to observe that two more perpetrators dressed in the same above-mentioned clothing, approached and entered the convenience store area. While being held at gunpoint, he observed that the taller of the three suspects went behind the store’s cash register area demanding the cashier on duty to place money from the register into a plastic bag, while pointing a weapon to the worker’s forehead.

The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash. This case is classified as a Robbery in the 1st Degree. This case is presently under the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
