The investigation revealed the operator of the motorcycle was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed, apparently losing control of the motorcycle, veering into the eastbound lane and colliding into the right side of the Nissan Versa. The operator of the motorcycle - identified by next of kin as 45-year-old Vanborn R. Neptune, Jr. of Boetzberg - was not wearing a helmet required by VI law, and severely injured in the collision, succumbing to his injuries on the scene. The driver and passenger in the Nissan Versa sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated and released from the Juan Francisco Luis Hospital & Medical Center.
