Drowning Incident Near Frenchman’s Cove

St. Thomas, USVI - On Thursday, November 24, 2022, at approximately 11:12 am, the 911 Emergency Call Center dispatched officers from the Richard N. Callwood Command to a possible drowning at the beach at the Frenchman’s Cove, St. Thomas USVI.

Upon the unit’s arrival, they met with Emergency Medical Technicians who were in the process of transporting a male to the Schneider Regional Medical Center. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the male was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation revealed that on November 24, 2022, at approximately 11:00 am, a male, who was visiting St. Thomas with his wife, went swimming at the Frenchman’s Cove. Soon thereafter, he called out for help. His wife was able to pull him ashore and perform CPR until the Emergency Medical Technicians arrived.

Next of kin identified the male as 81-year-old Courtney Nelthropp.

The cause of death is unknown at this time, pending an autopsy.
