St. Croix Business Owner Arrested on Gun Charges and Assault

St. Croix, USVI - On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at approximately 11:14 p.m., 911 Emergency Call Center received a call from a female who stated that she was in an altercation with her child’s father at his place of business, where he fired a single gunshot in the air, waved and pointed a firearm at a family member. Several witnesses were interviewed, and their statements all corroborated with the complainants’ statements. They further stated that Mr. Jamaal Mingo was intoxicated and got in a verbal and then physical altercation with some females at the business. He ran in the establishment and returned with a firearm, discharged a shot in the air and then approached the females and pointed the firearm in one of their face.

A firearms registration check revealed that Mr. Mingo does not have a license to carry a firearm. Search warrants were obtained in reference to this incident, which resulted in the discovery of a firearm.

On December 7, 2022 at 2:41 p.m., 40-year-old, Jamaal Mingo, was arrested and charged in accordance to the arrest warrant with assault in the third degree, unauthorized possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, unauthorized possession of ammunition, discharging or aiming firearms and reckless endangerment in the first degree. His bail was set at $100,000.00. He was also arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of firearm after the firearm was discovered in a vehicle and he claimed ownership. Bail was set as per chart at $50,000.00. He was unable to post bail and was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending advise of rights.
